Sign Michael's Petition

Many of you have followed Michael’s case since the beginning, certainly for many years, and know Michael was a young and accomplished Army Ranger Lt who killed a suspected Al-Qa’ida member during an interrogation in a war zone in Iraq. US Army intelligence indicated the Al-Qa’ida member was responsible for the brutal IED attack killing two brothers-in-arms in Michael’s platoon. During the interrogation, the suspect lunged for Michael’s weapon and Michael fired in self-defense. He was convicted of unpremeditated murder based on an improper self-defense legal instruction given to the court martial jury. The conviction was upheld on appeal because the court determined that Michael had lost the right to self-defense by pointing his weapon at the suspect. Michael was sentenced to fifteen years, served five years at Fort Leavenworth, and has been free on parole for four years. Because of the extenuating circumstances of Michael’s case, his honorable service before and after that fateful day, Michael is seeking a Presidential pardon in order to restore his rights as an American citizen—the rights he fought so hard to defend.
